The Western Lit Survival Kit by Sandra Newman

‘The Western Lit Survival Kit: An Irreverent Guide to the Classics, from Homer to Faulkner’ is the new book by UEA alumna Sandra Newman and has just been published by Gotham Books. Sandra graduated from UEA’s Creative Writing (Prose Fiction) MA in 2002, when she was shortlisted for the Guardian First Book Award for her debut novel ‘The Only Good Thing Anyone Has Ever Done’. This was followed by ‘Cake’ in 2007, ‘How Not to Write a Novel: 200 Classic Mistakes and How to Avoid Them’ (with Howard Mittelmark) in 2010, and ‘Changeling: a Memoir’, also in 2010. Her new novel ‘The Country of the Ice Cream War’ will be published later this year.
