Richard (pictured) graduated from the MA in Creative Writing in 1996 and published his first novel, ‘The Red Dancer’, in 2002. ‘The Velvet Gentleman’ was published in France, Italy and Japan in 2008 and shortlisted for the French Prix Livres & Musiques as ‘Le gentleman de velours’. It will be included in the forthcoming publication of the ‘The Mirror’. Richard taught for a number of years at Goldsmiths College, London, and is now the Director of the Fiction Programme at the Faber Academy. His writer’s handbook ‘Fiction Writing: The Essential Guide to Writing a Novel’ was published by Hale in 2009.
