Kiare grew up in South Africa. She is redrafting a novel, Stone Farm, set in the Western Cape. This is the story of a widow whose strong belief in individual freedom leads her – despite her late husband’s death in a biking accident – to buy her teenage son a motorcycle. Shortly afterwards, she hears that a Xhosa child has been killed in a hit-and-run accident near their home. The novel raises questions about complicity and loyalty to blood in a personal context with far wider implications.
