Two UEA alumni have been shortlisted for the inaugural Republic of Consciousness prize for books published by small presses. The prize money of £2,000 will be split between the winning author and their publisher. KJ (Katherine) Orr is nominated for Light Box, her debut collection of short stories, published by Daunt Books last year, while Paul Standbridge is nominated for his debut novel Forbidden Line, recently published by Galley Beggar Press. Katherine (pictured) graduated from the UEA MA in Creative Writing (Prose Fiction) in 2007 and is currently teaching on UEA’s MFA in Creative Writing. She was the winner of the 2016 BBC National Short Story Award. Paul gained his PhD from UEA in 2011. The winner of the Republic of Consciousness prize will be announced in March.
