Writing MA in 1987 and published her first collection of stories, ‘The Portable Virgin’, in 1991. She has since published one other collection of stories, a work of non-fiction – ‘Making Babies’ – and four other novels, most recently ‘The Gathering’, which was the Irish Novel of the Year and won the Irish Fiction Award and the 2007 Man Booker Prize.
