‘Saraswati Park’, the debut novel by UEA writer Anjali Joseph, has been shortlisted for this year’s
Royal Society of Literature Ondaatje Prize, which is worth £10,000 and rewards a distinguished
work of fiction, non-fiction or poetry that evokes the spirit of a place. The winner will be announced
on 23 May. Anjali graduated from the Creative Writing MA in 2008 and is currently completing a
PhD in Creative and Critical Writing. Her novel, which was published by 4th Estate last year and
has just been issued in paperback, is also currently longlisted for the Desmond Elliott Prize and was previously shortlisted for The Hindu Best Fiction Award and the Commonwealth Writers’ Prize
(South Asia and Europe Best First Book).
