‘Night Orders’ is the debut collection of poetry by UEA Creative Writing tutor, Jean McNeil, and has
just been published by Smith/Doorstop Books. Subtitled ‘Poems from the Arctic and Antarctic’, the collection draws on her recent experiences as a writer-in-residence with the British Antarctic Survey and, in the Arctic, with the Natural Environment Research Council. A novel, ‘The Ice Lovers’, which also derived from these residencies, was published in 2009. Jean (pictured) teaches The Art of Short Fiction on the MA in Creative Writing programme and is the author of the short storycollection ‘Nights in a Foreign Country’ as well as three previous novels, including ‘Hunting Down Home’ which was
shortlisted for the Commonwealth Writer’s Prize.
