Ramesh Balakrishna (R.B.) Pillay is to be the 2012-13 David T.K. Wong Writing Fellow at UEA. Ramesh (pictured) is American and lives in New York. He speaks English and Malayalam and studied initially at Tufts University (Medford MA) where he graduated with a BA in English Literature in 2000. He completed an MFA in Creative Writing at Columbia University, New York, in 2007, and currently works as a lecturer in the English department at Niagara University (Niagara Falls, NY). While at UEA he will be working on a novel told from the first-person perspective of an unnamed, elderly Singapore Indian who dreams of one day becoming a famous Bollywood actor. He will be the fifteenth recipient of the Fellowship, which is worth £26,000 and is named after its sponsor, the retired Hong Kong businessman and writer, Mr David Wong. Previous Fellows include Jose Dalisay, Wendy Law-Yone, Rattawut Lapcharoensap, Nam Le, Cab Tran, and most recently Presca Ahn.
