read Modern and Medieval Languages at Cambridge and has taught French, Italian and English as a Foreign Language at home and abroad. She completed the UEA MA in Life-Writing in 2006 and won an Escalator Literature Award in 2009. ‘Effie Gray, Fair Maid of Perth’ is a biography of the wife of Victorian art critic John Ruskin, whom she took to court for non-consummation of marriage before subsequently marrying the pre-Raphaelite painter John Everett Millais. The book was shortlisted in manuscript for the Tony Lothian Biographers’ Club Prize in 2009.
