‘The Savages’ is the latest novel for children by UEA alumnus Matt Whyman and has just been published by Hot Key Books in the UK. Matt graduated from the UEA MA in Creative Writing in 1992 and is the author of numerous books for younger readers, including ‘Boy Kills Man’ (2004), which was shortlisted for the Booktrust Teenage Prize and Holland’s de Jong Jury Prize, and ‘The Wild’, which was shortlisted for the Renfrewshire Teenage Book Award. His memoir ‘Walking With Sausage Dogs’ has also just been published in paperback by Hodder & Stoughton. In 1995 Matt became the first agony uncle for 19 magazine, and has subsequently written advice columns for numerous other magazines and is currently the agony uncle on BBC Radio 1’s ‘The Surgery. Matt also publishes books for younger readers under the pseudonyms Jack Carson and Lazlo Strangolov.
