‘Ballistics’ is the debut novel by UEA writer DW Wilson and is published by Bloomsbury this week. DW (pictured) graduated from the UEA Creative Writing MA (Prose Fiction) in 2010, when he was the inaugural recipient of the Booker Foundation scholarship. He is currently completing his PhD at UEA under the supervision of Andrew Cowan and Stephen Benson. His debut collection of short stories, ‘Once You Break A Knuckle’, was published last year and was shortlisted for the Dylan Thomas Prize and the British Columbia Book Prize and longlisted for the Frank O’Connor International Short Story Award. One of the stories from the collection, ‘The Dead Roads’, which was written while completing his MA, was the winner of the 2011 BBC National Short Story Award. Earlier this year DW was selected with fellow UEA student Sam Byers as one of the ‘debut literary stars of 2013’ by Waterstones booksellers. He teaches on UEA’s undergraduate Creative Writing programme.
