‘Healing the State of Man’ by UEA alumnus Sarah Lewis has uniquely been awarded a Special Mention after just missing out on the shortlist of five for this year’s BBC National Short Story Award, which is worth £15,000 to the winner. ‘We Are Watching Something Terrible Happening’ by UEA Professor of Poetry Lavinia Greenlaw is one of the five titles shortlisted for the award. Sarah (pictured) studied Mathematics at the University of Sussex and subsequently became an environmental journalist and editor, being named London and South Environmental Journalist of the Year in 2007. She graduated from the UEA’s Creative Writing (Prose Fiction) MA in 2011, when she was winner of the David Higham Award. She is currently finishing her first novel.
