‘A Kind of Eden’ is the new novel by UEA alumna Amanda Smyth and has recently been published by Serpent’s Tail. Amanda is Irish/Trinidadian and completed the MA in Creative Writing (Prose Fiction) in 2000. Her short stories and poetry have been published in New Writing, London Magazine, the TLS and broadcast on BBC Radio 4. Her first novel, ‘Black Rock’ was published by Serpent’s Tail in 2009, and was shortlisted for Waterstones New Voices in the UK, chosen as one of Oprah’s Summer Reads in the US, and shortlisted for the Prix Femina Etranger in France, where it was the winner of the Prix du Premier Roman Etranger in 2010. Creative England is funding the development of a film of ‘Black Rock’, with Shona Auerbach directing.
