‘Still Water, BC’ by Erin Soros has been shortlisted for this year’s Costa Short Story Award. Erin (pictured) grew up in Vancouver, Canada, and completed her MFA in Writing at Columbia University before joining UEA in 2008 as the Charles Pick Writing Fellow. She is currently completing her PhD in Creative and Critical Writing at UEA. Her fiction and non-fiction have been published in numerous international journals and anthologies, and in 2006 she was the winner of the Commonwealth Short Story prize. In 2008 she was shortlisted for the BBC Short Story Award and in 2011 she was longlisted for the Sunday Times EFG Private Bank Short Story Award. The six stories shortlisted for the Costa Award are available online, with the public invited to vote for the winner, who will receive £3,500 at the Costa Book Awards ceremony, with £1,500 going to the second place and £500 to third place. The winner of the inaugural prize in 2012 was UEA alumna, Avril Joy.
