‘CCTV Command Control’ by UEA alumnus Tom Warner is one of seven poems to be commended in this year’s National Poetry Competition, judged by Julia Copus, Matthew Sweeney and Jane Yeh. Tom (pictured) graduated from the UEA Creative Writing MA (Poetry) in 2001, and won an Eric Gregory Award that year. In 2009-2010 he was poet-in-residence in Newark, Nottinghamshire, as part of the Poetry-on-Trent project. He won a Faber New Poets Award in 2010, the Ink Sweat & Tears Norfolk Prize in 2009 and 2010, the Escalator Prize in 2011, and the Plough Prize in 2011. His first pamphlet of poetry was published by Faber & Faber in 2010, and his second, ‘Yoga’, has just been published by Egg Box along with a new pamphlet, ‘Standard Twin Fantasy’, by fellow UEA alumnus Sam Riviere. Both Tom and Sam will be reading in the UEA Poetry series at Take 5, Norwich, on Tuesday 15th April.
