The Beautiful Centre

James Sykes

Close proximity triggered a kind of radiation sickness
but we continued to be drawn in by its soft glow,
a snaking parallel to the monochromatic.
Somehow it made things better, and perhaps
that was near enough. True understanding
would manifest as a kind of chalice: a buttery
sizzling juice within that would turn our teeth to ash.
