Mrs Engles, the debut novel by UEA alumnus Gavin McCrea, has been longlisted for this year’s Walter Scott Prize for Historical Fiction, which is worth £25,000 to the winner. Gavin (pictured) holds a BA and an MA from University College Dublin, and completed his MA in Creative Writing (Prose Fiction) at UEA in 2009. Under the supervision of the novelist Trezza Azzopardi he gained a PhD in Creative and Critical Writing from UEA in 2013. Mrs Engels was published by Scribe last year and nominated for the 2015 Guardian First Book Award. The shortlist for the Walter Scott Prize will be announced in March, and the winner revealed on 18th June.
