The Living is the third novel by UEA alumna Anjali Joseph and is published by 4th Estate this week. Anjali (pictured) was born in Bombay in 1978 and read English at Trinity College, Cambridge before joining UEA. She graduated from the Creative Writing (Prose Fiction) MA in 2008 and completed her PhD in Creative and Critical Writing at UEA in 2014. Her debut novel Saraswati Park was published in 2010 and won a Betty Trask Award and the Desmond Elliott Prize. It was the co-winner of the Vodaphone Crossword Book Award and was shortlisted for The Hindu Best Fiction Award, the Commonwealth Writers Prize (South Asia and Europe Best First Book) and the Royal Society of Literature Ondaatje Prize. Another Country, her second novel, was published in 2012 and longlisted the Man Asian Literary Prize.
