les dieux

Francesca Kritikos

the gods are eating grapes
i haven’t understood them
for the past two winters

my mouth is a frozen door
that eats when it can
and starves, and starves

if i worked my fingers raw
i’d never make the things
that they can make

kneeling is understanding
but it’s hard to kneel
in all this blood, my blood
