UEA writers Rowan Hisayo Buchanan and Paul Stanbridge have been longlisted for this year’s Desmond Elliott Prize for debut novelists, which is worth £10,000 to the winner. Rowan is nominated for Harmless Like You, published by Sceptre, while Paul is selected for Forbidden Line, published by Galley Beggar Press. Rowan (pictured) was longlisted earlier this year for the inaugural Jhalak Prize for the Book of the Year by a Writer of Colour. She is currently completing her PhD in Creative & Critical Writing at UEA. Paul gained a PhD from UEA in 2011, and was previously longlisted for The Republic of Consciousness Prize. The shortlist for the Desmond Elliott Prize will be announced on 5 May, and the winner revealed on 21 June.
