The Day That Went Missing, a memoir by UEA alumnus Richard Beard, has been shortlisted for this year’s PEN Ackerley Prize for literary autobiography. The book is also currently shortlisted for the James Tait Black (Biography) Prize and was previously shortlisted for the Rathbones Folio Prize. Richard graduated from the MA in Creative Writing in 1995 and has published six novels including Lazarus is Dead, Dry Bones and Damascus, which was a New York Times Notable Book of the Year. He has been shortlisted for the BBC National Short Story Award and longlisted for the Sunday Times EFG Private Bank Short Story Award. His most recent novel Acts of the Assassins was shortlisted for the Goldsmiths Prize in 2015. Richard is also the author of three previous books of narrative non-fiction and was a Teaching Fellow in Creative Writing at UEA between 2014 and 2017. The winner of thePEN Ackerley Prize will be announced on 10 July, and the winner ofJames Tait Black Prize on 18 August.
