Van Rensburg’s Card by UEA alumna Kiare Ladner has been shortlisted for this year’s BBC National Short Story Award, which is worth £15,000 to the winner. Kiare graduated from the MA in Creative Writing (Prose Fiction) in 2013, when she was the recipient of the David Higham Associates scholarship. Her short fiction has appeared in Wasafiri, Lightship Anthology 1, New Contrast and Eclectica. Earlier this year her first novel Nightshift was acquired by Picador and will be published in 2020. The winner of the BBC Award will be announced on 2 October, and all five shortlisted stories will be broadcast on Radio 4 ahead of the final decision.
