UEA Creative Writing graduate Deborah Davis has been nominated in the Best Original Screenplay category at this year’s Oscars for The Favourite, which she co-wrote with Tony McNamara. Deborah worked on an earlier draft of script, originally titled Balance of Power, while a student at UEA. She graduated from the Creative Writing (Scriptwriting) MA in 2012, and Balance of Power was initially broadcast on BBC Radio 4 as a five-part drama. Her script for The Favourite was the winner of the Best Screenplay Award at the 2018 British Independent Film Awards. It has also been nominated for awards at the BAFTAs, the Golden Globes, the Critics’ Choice Awards, and the Gotham Independent Film Awards.
