UEA Creative Writing graduate Deborah Davis has won the Best Original Screenplay award at this year’s Baftas (British Academy of Film and Television Arts) for The Favourite, which she co-wrote with Tony McNamara. Deborah worked on an earlier draft of script, originally titled Balance of Power, while a student at UEA. She graduated from the Creative Writing (Scriptwriting) MA in 2012, and Balance of Power was initially broadcast on BBC Radio 4 as a drama series. Her script for The Favourite was also the winner of the Best Screenplay Award at the 2018 British Independent Film Awards. It has meanwhile been nominated for awards at the Golden Globes, the Critics’ Choice Awards, the Gotham Independent Film Awards, and the Oscars.
