Two recent graduates of the UEA Creative Writing programme have been shortlisted for the 2020 White Review Short Story Prize, which this year received 600 entries: Sussie Anie for her story ‘Maintenance’ and Gabriel Flynn for his story ‘Rockets and Blue Lights’. Sussie (pictured) was born in London to Ghanaian parents and studied PPE at the University of Warwick before joining the MA in Creative Writing (Prose Fiction) as the 2018-19 recipient of the Kowitz Scholarship. Gabriel graduated from the BA in English Literature with Creative Writing in 2018, and remained at UEA to complete an MA in Modern and Contemporary Writing before joining Harvard last year as a Kennedy Scholar. He currently lives in Manchester. The White Review Short Story Prize awards £2,500 to the best piece of short fiction by a writer resident in Britain & Ireland who has yet to secure a publishing deal.
