UEA student Joanna Walsh has been announced as a recipient of an Irish government Markievicz Award in the Literature category, for which she will receive €20,000. The Markievicz Award is a bursary scheme for artists and writers which commemorates the appointment of the Dáil’s first female cabinet minister, Constance de Markievicz, in 1919. Joanna (pictured) is currently completing her PhD in Creative & Critical Writing at UEA. She is the author of seven books, including the digital work seed-story.com, which will be published by No Alibis Press later this year. Her most recent book, BREAK.UP, was published by Semiotext(e) and Tuskar Rock in 2018. She was awarded a UK Arts Foundation fellowship in 2017.
