Two UEA alumni have been included in the shortlist of three for this year’s Galley Beggar Press Short Story Prize. Edward Hogan, who graduated from the Creative Writing (Prose Fiction) MA in 2004, is nominated for ‘Single Sit’, while Lauren Van Schaik (pictured), a current PhD student who graduated from the MA in 2016, is nominated for ‘Kitchen with an Island’. Two other alumnae, Erica Wagner (MA 1991) and Kathy Stevens (MA 2017), were given Special Mentions, and Gordon Collins (MA 2010) was longlisted. The competition is judged by Eley Williams, Sam Fisher and Catherine Taylor and is worth £2,000 to the winner. UEA alumna Anna Wood (MA 2011) was the winner of the 2019 competition, while Vijay Khurana (MFA 2019) was shortlisted in 2020.
