Provenance is a multi-screen immersive play by UEA alumna Ayọ̀bámi Adébáyọ̀ and has been created in collaboration with creative technologists Mutiny. Commissioned as part of UEA’s Future & Form project, it follows the journey of a sacred ibeji artefact from its creation in Benin City, Nigeria in 1895 to present-day Norwich, and will be performed live by Marva Alexander at Dragon Hall, Norwich, as part of the Norfolk and Norwich Festival from 21 May. It may also be viewed online from anywhere in the world. Future & Form comprises six new multidisciplinary, experimental works that explore the interface between contemporary literature and creative technology. Funded by Arts Council England, it is the centrepiece of the fiftieth anniversary celebrations of the UEA Creative Writing programme. Ayọ̀bámi (pictured) graduated from the UEA MA in Creative Writing (Prose Fiction) in 2014 and is the author of the acclaimed novel Stay With Me (Canongate 2017), shortlisted for the Women’s Prize for Fiction and the Wellcome Book Prize and described as a ‘stunning’ debut novel by the New York Times.
