Senseless a new work by UEA alumnus James McDermott that combines live theatre with virtual reality technology. Commissioned as part of UEA’s Future & Form project, it was created in collaboration with Guildhall Live Events, an innovative new department of Guildhall School of Music & Drama, and will be launched online as part of the Norfolk and Norwich Festival on 21 May. Future & Form comprises six new multidisciplinary, experimental works that explore the interface between contemporary literature and creative technology. Funded by Arts Council England, it is the centrepiece of the fiftieth anniversary celebrations of the UEA Creative Writing programme. James (pictured) graduated from UEA with a BA in Scriptwriting & Performance in 2015 and with an MA in Scriptwriting in 2016. His plays include Fast Food (Lyric Hammersmith), Street Life (Norwich Theatre Royal), Rubber Ring (Pleasance Islington; UK Tour), and Time & Tide (Park Theatre, London), which was nominated for an Off-West End Theatre Award for Best New Play. James’s debut poetry collection Manatomy was published by Burning Eye Books last year.
