‘A Prolonged Kiss’ by UEA alumnus Jonathan Gibbs has been shortlisted for this year’s Sunday Times/Audible Short Story Award, the world’s richest short story prize. Jonathan (pictured) graduated from the MA in Creative Writing (Prose Fiction) at UEA in 2009 and received his PhD in Creative and Critical Writing in 2014. He is the author of two novels, Randall, or The Painted Grape (Galley Beggar, 2014), which was longlisted for the Desmond Elliott Prize, and The Large Door (Boiler House Press, 2019). A book-length poem, Spring Journal, was published by CB Editions last year. His short stories have been anthologised in Best British Short Stories 2014 and 2015, and shortlisted for the inaugural White Review Short Story Prize 2013. He teaches Creative Writing at City, University of London, where he is Programme Director for the MA/MFA Creative Writing. The winner of the Sunday Times/Audible Short Story Award will be announced on 8th July and will receive £30,000. The five other shortlisted writers will each receive £1,000.
