The Man on the Street by UEA Creative Writing alumnus Trevor Wood has won the inaugural CrimeFest Specsavers Debut Crime Novel Award. It was the winner of the 2020 Crime Writers Association (CWA) John Creasey (New Blood) Dagger Award and is currently longlisted for the Theakston Old Peculier Crime Novel Of The Year and the Society of Authors Paul Torday Memorial Prize for the best first novel by a writer over sixty. Trevor graduated from the MA in Creative Writing (Crime Fiction) in 2017 and published The Man on the Street with Quercus in 2019. He previously served in the Royal Navy for sixteen years and has since worked as a journalist and for Newcastle City Council. With co-writer Ed Waugh, he has had eight stage plays professionally produced in the UK, Ireland, New Zealand and Australia. The Man on the Street has been optioned for TV and film by World Productions, producers of Line of Duty and The Bodyguard. His second novel One Way Street is published in hardback by Quercus this week.
