‘This Little Light of Mine’ by UEA alumnus Troy Onyango has been shortlisted for the 2021 AKO Caine Prize. Troy (pictured) studied Law at the University of Nairobi, Kenya, and worked as a lawyer before joining the MA in Creative Writing (Prose Fiction) at UEA as the recipient of the Miles Morland Foundation Writing Fellowship. He graduated in 2019 and has since founded the literary journal Lolwe. In 2016 he won the inaugural Nyanza Literary Festival (NALIF) Prize for his short story ‘For What Are Butterflies Without Their Wings’, and in 2018 he was listed among the 21 Best African Writers of the New Generation by Woke Africa. His work has been published in Prairie Schooner, Doek!, Wasafiri, Johannesburg Review of Books, AFREADA, Ebedi Review, Nairobi Noir, Caine Prize Anthology (Redemption Song & Other Stories), Kalahari Review and Transition among others.
