Two UEA alumni have been shortlisted for this year’s Mairtín Crawford Awards at the Belfast Book Festival. Vijay Khurana is nominated for the Short Story Award and Luke Allan for the Poetry Award. Vijay (pictured) graduated in 2019 from the MFA in Creative Writing at UEA, and has twice been shortlisted for the Galley Beggar Short Story Prize, in 2019 and 2020. He was also shortlisted for the Bath Short Story Award in 2019 and the Cúirt New Writing Prize earlier this year. He lives in Berlin and is currently completing a novel. Luke graduated from the BA in English Literature with Creative Writing in 2009 and is currently the poetry editor at Partus Press and co-editor of the magazines Pain and Oxford Poetry. A former managing editor at Carcanet Press and PN Review, his poems are published in the TLS, The White Review, and The Poetry Review. He published a chapbook, minimum soft exchange, in 2015, and was the winner of the Charles Causley International Poetry Competition in 2019. He was also commended in this year’s Poetry Society National Poetry Competition.
