Fortune is the new novel by UEA alumna Amanda Smyth and has just been published by Peepal Tree Press. Amanda is Irish/Trinidadian and completed the MA in Creative Writing (Prose Fiction) in 2000. Her first novel, Black Rock, was published by Serpent’s Tail in 2009, and was shortlisted for Waterstones New Voices in the UK, chosen as one of Oprah’s Summer Reads in the US, and shortlisted for the McKitterick Prize and for the Prix Femina Etranger in France, where it was the winner of the Prix du Premier Roman Etranger in 2010. A Kind of Eden was published by Serpent’s Tail in 2013 and optioned as a TV series. Her fiction and poetry have appeared in New Writing, London Magazine, The Times Literary Supplement, Harvard Review and broadcast on BBC Radio 4
