This One Wild Place is the new short story collection by UEA alumna Avril Joy and has recently been published by Linen Press. Avril gained a BA in History of Art at UEA in 1972, and published her first novel The Sweet Track in 2007. This was followed by The Orchid House (2011), From Writing With Love (2014), Millie and Bird: Tales of Paradise (2015), Sometimes A River Song (2016) and Going In With Flowers (2019). Avril worked for several years as a teacher in HMP Low Newton, on the outskirts of Durham, and in 2003 won a Northern Promise Award from New Writing North. She was shortlisted for the 2021 Bristol Short Story Prize and won the inaugural Costa Short Story Award in 2013.
