The Echo Chamber by UEA alumnus John Boyne has been shortlisted for the Eason Novel of the Year Award at the An Post Irish Book Awards, which is decided by public vote. It was published Doubleday earlier this year. John graduated from the UEA MA in Creative Writing in 1995, and returned as a Creative Writing Fellow in 2004, and as a tutor on the Creative Writing MA in 2014. A recipient of the Curtis Brown bursary in 1994, he is now the sponsor of a bursary for young Irish writer to join the MA. John’s first novel, The Thief of Time, was published in 2000, since when he has published a dozen other novels for adults and five novels for younger readers, including The Boy In The Striped Pyjamas, which was published successfully all over the world and was made into a feature film by Miramax. The winner of the Eason Novel of the Year Award will be announced on 8th December.
