Common Place by recent UEA graduate Helen Baczkowska was shortlisted for the 2021 Nan Shepherd Prize for nature writing. Helen graduated from the MA in Biography and Creative Non-Fiction in 2021. She is an ecologist, writer and environmental activist living in rural Norfolk and regularly writes articles on local wildlife for Norfolk publications and for The Land magazine. She has previously published a collection of poetry, Beyond the Shingle Bank, with photographs by John Volynchook (2017), and (as Helen Beynon) an oral history of Britain’s first direct action road protest camp, Twyford Rising: Land and Resistance.
