New Writing

The Replacement Centre is a new book for children by UEA alumna Fflur Dafydd and is published by Graffeg this week as part of the Reading Agency ‘Quick Reads’ scheme. Fflur (pictured) graduated from the MA in Creative Writing (Prose Fiction) in 2000 and has since written for stage, screen and radio in both English and Welsh, as well as recording and touring widely as a musician. Her first Welsh-language novel Lliwiau Liw Nos (Colours by Night) was published in 2005 and shortlisted for the National Eisteddfod Prose Medal. It was followed in 2006 by her second novel Atyniad (Attraction), which won the award.Y Llyfrgell was published in 2009 and won the Daniel Owen Memorial Prize. It was made into a film in 2016. Her first English-language novel Twenty Thousand Saints was published in 2008 and won the Oxfam Hay Prize for Emerging Writers. The White Trail was published in 2011 by Seren and longlisted for the 2019 New Welsh Writing Awards, while Lloerganiadau, her Welsh-language memoir, was published in 2020 by Y Lolfa. Her drama series 35 Diwrnod was shortlisted for the Best Drama Series award at the Celtic Media Festival in 2021. Yr Amgueddfa was shortlisted this year. Fflur lectures in creative writing at Swansea University and has also recently sold two new thrillers in English to Hodder & Stoughton
