New Writing

Diego Garcia is a new novel jointly written by UEA graduates Natasha Soobramanien and Luke Williams, and is published by Fitzcarraldo Editions this week. Instalments from the novel have previously been published in BOMB, The White Review, Semiotext(e)’s Animal Shelter, Triple Canopy, and as part of a pamphlet series published by Book Works/Common Guild, Dialecty. Natasha graduated from the MA in Creative Writing (Prose Fiction) in 2002 and from the PhD in Creative & Critical Writing in 2010. Her first novel Genie and Paul was published by Myriad Editions in 2012 and selected for the Amazon Rising Stars competition. She currently lives in Brussels. Luke also graduated from the MA in Creative Writing (Prose Fiction) in 2002, having previously studied History at the University of Edinburgh. After graduation he was awarded the 2003 Charles Pick Fellowship and subsequently published his debut novel, The Echo Chamber (Hamish Hamilton, 2011). This contained two chapters written by Natasha, with whom he also collaborated in running the Plum live literature event in London. It was the winner of the Saltire Society Scottish First Book of the Year Award in 2012. Luke teaches Creative Writing at Birkbeck, University of London.
