While You’re Sleeping, a children’s picture book by UEA alumnus Mick Jackson and illustrator John Broadley, has been shortlisted for the Society of Authors / Queen’s Knickers Award, a prize founded by Nicholas Allan, author of The Queen’s Knickers, for an outstanding children’s original illustrated book for ages 0-7. It was published Pavilion Children’s Books in 2020. Mick graduated from the MA in Creative Writing in 1992 and published his first novel, The Underground Man, in 1997. This won the Society of Authors First Novel Award and was shortlisted for both the Booker Prize and the Whitbread First Novel Award. He has since written four more novels, a novella, a collection of stories and an e-book, all published by Faber & Faber, and has written and directed prize-winning short films and directed a documentary for BBC2. Between 2012-14 he was the Royal Literary Fund Writing Fellow at the University of Sussex. His most recent novel is Yuki Chan in Bronte Country.
