Radio Silence by UEA alumna Stephanie Y. Tam has been shortlisted for the 2022 Fitzcarraldo Editions/Mahler & LeWitt Studios Essay Prize, which awards £3,000 to the best proposal for a book-length essay by a previously unpublished writer. In addition, the winner will have the opportunity to spend up to three months in residency at the Mahler & LeWitt Studios in Italy to work on the book, which will then be published by Fitzcarraldo. Born in New York, Stephanie (pictured) graduated from the UEA MFA in Creative Writing in 2020, having previously gained an MSt in World Literatures and an MSc in evidence-based social intervention from the University of Oxford. She has worked for various radio and podcast networks, including Freakonomics Radio, New York Public Radio, and First Look Media. Her writing has been published in The Believer, The Behavioral Scientist, and Slate, among others. The winner of the prize will be announced in mid-May.
