Current UEA student Ellen Wiese and MA alumna Jyoti Patel have been longlisted for this year’s Bristol Short Story Prize. Ellen, who is nominated for ‘The Walking King’, is currently completing the MA in Creative Writing (Prose Fiction). Born in Minnesota, she received her BA and MAPH in English Literature from the University of Chicago and has since worked as a playwright, dramaturg, and script supervisor at venues including Steppenwolf Theatre Company, Aston Rep, and Trap Door Theatre. Her prose has been published in Wigleaf, Bookends Review, Cathexis Northwest Press, Glimmer Train, and Lost Balloon. Jyoti (pictured), who is nominated for her story ‘Once’, was born in Paris to British Indian parents and grew up in London. She graduated from the BA in English Literature with Creative Writing at UEA in 2014 and from the MA in Creative Writing (Prose Fiction) in 2021. Her first novel One Of Six was the winner of the 2021 Merky Books New Writers Prize and will be published as The Things That We Lost in January 2023.
