UEA alumna Katie Waldegrave has been awarded an MBE for her outstanding contribution to her community. She was recognised in the Queen’s Birthday Honours List in 2021 and received her award at Buckingham Palace last week. Katie (pictured) graduated from the UEA MA in Lifewriting 2007 and subsequently gained her PhD from UEA in 2012. She co-founded the writers-into-schools charity First Story with author William Fiennes, lectured at Ashoka University in New Delhi, and taught at Cranford Community College in Hounslow, west London, before establishing and becoming the director of the organisation Now Teach. In 2013 her book The Poets’ Daughters: Dora Wordsworth and Sara Coleridge was published by Hutchinson.
