The House Next to the Factory by UEA alumna Sonal Kohli has been longlisted for the Tata Literature Live First Book Award at the Mumbai Literary Festival. It was published in India by HarperCollins last year, and has just been published in the UK Swift Press. Sonal (pictured) grew up in Delhi and now lives in Washington, DC. She gained a BA in Economics from Shri Ram College of Commerce, Delhi University, before graduating from the UEA MA in Creative Writing (Prose Fiction) in 2013. She has received fellowships from Virginia Center for the Creative Arts and Sangam House, and her stories have been shortlisted for the Bristol Short Story Prize 2019 and Fish Short Story Prize 2014. The House Next to the Factory is currently also shortlisted for India’s Valley of Words Awards. The Tata Literature Live First Book Award was previously won by UEA alumna Deepa Anappara for Djinn Patrol on the Purple Line and by former UEA writing fellow Shubhangi Swarup for Latitudes of Longing.
