Marie Antoinette is a new television series scripted by UEA alumna Deborah Davis and is currently being shown in eight episodes on BBC2. Deborah graduated from the MA in Creative Writing (Scriptwriting) in 2012, having previously worked in law and journalism. Her drama series Balance of Power was written while on the MA and initially broadcast on BBC Radio4 before being developed for cinema as The Favourite. Deborah and her co-writer Tony McNamara were nominated in the Best Original Screenplay category of the 2019 Oscars for The Favourite, and subsequently won the Best Original Screenplay award the 2019 Baftas. Their screenplay was also the winner of the Best Screenplay Award at the 2018 British Independent Film Awards and nominated for awards at the Golden Globes, the Critics’ Choice Awards, and the Gotham Independent Film Awards. Deborah is rejoining the UEA Creative Writing programme as a visiting writing fellow this semester, along with poet Will Harris and novelist Sunjeev Sahota.
