The Passenger Seat by UEA alumnus Vijay Khurana has been shortlisted for The Novel Prize, a biennial award sponsored by London-based Fitzcarraldo Editions, Sydney-based Giramondo, and New York-based New Directions. The winning novel will receive $10,000 and simultaneous publication in each of the territories covered by the three publishers. Vijay (pictured) graduated from the UEA MFA in Creative Writing in 2019. His short fiction has been published in NOON, the Guardian and 3:AM, and nominated for several prizes. He was shortlisted for the Bath Short Story Award in 2019 and for the Bristol Short Story Prize in 2021, and was twice shortlisted for the Galley Beggar Short Story Prize, in 2019 and 2020. In 2021 he was also named as one of the four winners of Australia’s Griffith Review Emerging Voices competition, shortlisted for the Mairtín Crawford Award at the Belfast Book Festival, and awarded second prize in the Cúirt New Writing Prize. His children’s chapter book Regal Beagle was published in 2014. Vijay lives in Berlin.
