A Spell of Good Things is the second novel by UEA alumna Ayọ̀bámi Adébáyọ̀ and is published by Canongate Books this week. Ayọ̀bámi was born in Lagos, Nigeria, and graduated from the UEA MA in Creative Writing (Prose Fiction) in 2014. Her first novel Stay With Me, for which she was awarded the 9Mobile Fellowship, was published by Canongate in the UK and Knopf in the USA, and translation rights were sold around the world. It was shortlisted for the Bailey’s Women’s Prize for Fiction, when Ayọ̀bámi won The Future Awards Africa Prize for Arts and Culture. It was also nominated for the 2018 Dylan Thomas Prize, the Wellcome Book Prize, and the Prix Les Afriques. Ayọ̀bámi has received fellowships and residencies from MacDowell Colony, Ledig House, Sinthian Cultural Centre, Hedgebrook, Ox-bow School of Arts, and Ebedi Hills.
