The Sleep Watcher is the new novel by UEA alumna Rowan Hisayo Buchanan and is published by Sceptre this week. Rowan gained her PhD in Creative & Critical Writing from UEA in 2019. Her debut novel Harmless Like You was published by Sceptre in 2016 and received a Betty Trask Award. It was the winner of the Authors’ Club Best First Novel Award, shortlisted for the Books Are My Bag Readers Awards in the Breakthrough Author category and for the Desmond Elliott Prize, and was longlisted for the Jhalak Prize. In the USA it was a New York Times Editors’ Choice and an NPR 2017 Great Read. Her second novel Starling Days was published by Sceptre in 2019 and shortlisted in the Novel category of the Costa Book Awards. Earlier this year Daunt Books published Dog Hearted: Essays on Our Fierce and Familiar Companions, a collection of essays edited by Rowan and nature writer Jessica J. Lee.
