A House for Alice by UEA alumna Diana Evans has been shortlisted for the 2023 Orwell Prize for Political Fiction, a prize that rewards outstanding fiction published in the UK that illuminates major social and political themes. The novel was published by Chatto & Windus earlier this year. Diana graduated from the MA in Creative Writing (Prose Fiction) in 2003. Her debut novel, 26a, was published in 2005 and won the inaugural Orange Award for New Writers and the British Book Awards deciBel Writer of the Year prize and was shortlisted for the Whitbread First Novel Award, the Guardian First Book Award and the Commonwealth Best First Book Award. Her second novel, The Wonder, was published in 2009. Ordinary People was published in 2018 and was the winner of the 2019 South Bank Sky Arts Award in Literature category. It was also shortlisted for the inaugural Orwell Prize, the Women’s Prize for Fiction and the Rathbones Folio Prize, and was longlisted for the Goldsboro Books Glass Bell Award.
