Two Poems

Charlie Baylis

Two poems from a fondness for the colour green, published by Broken Sleep Books in June 2023

autumn in kyoto

green fruit pastilles &
houellebecq

huge acacias
powdering out the sunset

rejection
all the sad girls
in kasumi pearls

singer-sargent
&
submarines                gashed lungs

south-rushing waterfalls
opium clouds rashed by lantern light

ophelia face down
in deep oceans of milk

in the rear-view mirror
i glimpse her
loveless in kyoto

neal astley made me scrabbled eggs for breakfast

neal astley made me scrabbled eggs
& asked me if i wanted a bloodaxe

what’s a bloodaxe, i asked neal

be careful with the words you use
especially when you’re insulting

seventeen tonnes of whale meat
under the bonnet of my white ferrari

do you want more egg asked neil

a bottle of water please
i’d rather be seen dead.
